Founded in 1890 in Walsall, England, Chamberlain & Hill evolved from toy and hardware manufacturing to military munitions and automotive parts. In the 1920s, they left their mark on collectible history with the Clown Bust and Jolly mechanical banks.
Chamberlain & Hill: From Toys to Munitions and Mechanical Banks
Chamberlain & Hill, also known as the Chuckery Foundry, was established in 1890 in Walsall, Staffordshire, England. Initially, the company specialized in the production of toys, electrical switchgear and domestic hardware, and ultimately specialized in making parts for the automotive industry.
By 1912, the company specialized in making munition to support the military during World War. In the 1920s, they produced the Clown Bust bank, also known as the British Clown. In addition, they made two Jolly banks.
