The New England Toy Company, which became known as The William S Reed Toy Company, was established in 1874, in Leominster, Massachusetts. The company was known for its wooden and paper toys, and at one point was the largest toy manufacturer in the United States.

Willam Reed took an interest in mechanical banks, designing and producing three rare banks; having been attributed to his company – – the Old Woman in the Shoe, the Little Red Riding Hood, and Girl in Victorian Chair.
